SOLLY-CATION GIVEAWAY!

Friends! I'm sure many of you have seen my post about this on Facebook,
but I thought I'd write about it for my exclusive bloggie buddies as well.

The Solly Baby Wrap is one of the most popular baby carriers we sell at Babinskis.

It's super comfy, chic and organic.

They come in darling colors, and basically I really love them.

Anyway, the company is doing a giveaway (read: FREE)

You can win $2500 in airfare, $1500 in lodging, and FIVE Solly Baby Wraps of your choice. Friends, I haven't been asked to blog about this; I'm not being compensated in anyway for it. I'm blogging about it because who doesn't want to travel, and get some adorable Solly Wraps in a giveaway?!

I figure I'll enter, and tell everyone I love to enter, and hopefully one of us will win.

Anyway, enter at this link, and best of luck darlings! I sure hope someone I know wins a lovely little babymoon/lovetrip.

Aren't they just darling?
Lets hope one of us is a winner!

Just a few (instagram) photos of our trip this summer, friends.
I'm sorry for the delay for those of you who have been asking for these for months.
I promise, there are more to come.

This one we took moments before we boarded our flight from NYC to Dublin.
(We'd been traveling since 7am that morning, been through three flights, and because one of them had been majorly delayed, we thought for sure there was no way we'd catch this flight. We were so happy when we found the plane with a three leaf clover hadn't left without us. Lucky.)

This one we took during our day in Dublin.
Goodness, we were tired.

The view from our window in charming Luton, England (about an hour outside of London).
We stayed here overnight with the sweetest people I've ever met in my life.

From Luton, we took a bus into central London,
and from there we spent a few hours getting lost in the city.

London was Gideon's favorite.
He couldn't get enough of the history.

The plane ride from England into France.

…and the view (day and night) from our stay in Paris.

The tower was visible from our bedroom, the kitchen and the shower.
The SHOWER!

The screen at the airport in France that told us our
flight to Rome was delayed yet another hour due to the pouring rain.

We didn't land until 1am, but when we finally got to our apartment, it was all worth it.
Especially the view that morning.

This is my sweet Gideon with gelato in front of the iconic Trevi fountain.
While we were in Italy, we ate Gelato each meal. I'm not exaggerating.
Gideon was sick of it after the second day. Weirdo.

After Rome, we got on an overnight train car (that we shared with two turkish students, and one drunk italian who was super excited to tell us all about elton john after he found out we were american. Gideon was sweet to keep the conversation going with him long after I fell asleep).

Next time, we'll splurge and get our own train car.
But the view was pretty incredible when we did wake up.

Venice was lovely, although I have to say we were exhausted and quite ready to come home.
This one we took by the bridge of sighs.

This, the view from our Venice apartment.

You guessed it. More gelato.

The view from our plane back to America.

The other night I sighed to Gideon and said, "Remember the time we went to Europe?"
Being silly, he said something along the lines of,
"Europe? No, I don't remember that. When did we do that?"

I guess that means we need to go again, don't you think friends?

That's all for today, friends!
Hope you enjoyed.

Dear Canada,

We share a special bond. It started when my elementary school did a play representing different countries, and I played a farmer from Canada who just said "eh" alot.

Looking back, it may have been borderline offensive.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for you, Canada.

Thanks for introducing me to my best friend in the whole wide world.

Thanks for hosting me for two visits when I went on tour with my university dance company (first to lovely alberta, and then to charming quebec a few years later). Two weeks isn't nearly long enough to visit a province.

Thanks for letting Gid and I crash there for our honeymoon a little less than five years ago. It was the most lovely autumn trip a pair of newlyweds could've dreamed of.

Do you know I've never met a Canadian I didn't like? Never.

That's a big deal for me, Canada.
I'm really not one of those people who likes everyone.

Anyway, I'm hoping someday we can visit you again. Soon perhaps.

Happy Thanksgiving.

ps- here's a quiz where you can find out where in Canada you should live.

pss- I love you too, America. Don't be jelly...

light...

...is such an interesting negotiation to capture through a lens.

I was looking through some dear friends photography blogs
and loving the studio spaces they've created right in their homes.

We live in an apartment that is less than 500 square feet.

It's exactly what we need right now,
and I can't even begin to tell you how much we love it.

But there's not a lot of room for photography, and not nearly enough natural light.

However, I think may have discovered a spot (about 2 square feet... seriously it's small!)
that receives enough light to count as a mini studio.

Sometimes I think I feel like I'm in the dark,
when I'm actually sitting in a small patch of perfect light.

There's only space for shots that are cropped quite close, and the light doesn't travel to the wall behind, which makes the background a soft gloomy sort of gray. My favorite.

It was just an experiment, and there was quite a lot of trial and error.

And I have to say, most of the images didn't turn out too well.

blurry blurry blurry
misguided crop

(there's several more images that turned out less than amazing that I'm too embarrassed to show on this blog...)
My point is, I think we have more light in our space than I originally thought.

Which is why having a lovely model would be nice.
Someone to practice on.

Anyone interested in being a model for the tiny experimental studio?

Leave a comment below, or leave me a message, will you?
Oh, and enjoy your weekend, friends.

getaway.

gid and I celebrated our five year anniversary a few weeks ago friends.

except we didn't really celebrate (as in go out and do anything), because work has been busy for both of us. hard to get away.

the view from our window

we thought about going to vegas and seeing a show perhaps. there wasn't anything out we really wanted to see. we've tried to be "vegas people". we're just not. i don't trust that city...

we considered going to southern utah and checking out some of the national parks down there. but we couldn't find a long enough amount of time off to make it worth it.

I just decided we'd skip celebrating this year. After all- we did just go to europe. (geez, I still gotta post about a thousand pictures from that...)

then gid surprised me (like he always does). with a fun little spa weekend getaway up in midway; a cute little swiss town past park city.

we ate at darling restaurants, treated ourselves to some fudge, tried out the spa, and played mini golf. when we weren't enjoying the lovely fall weather, we snuggled in our comfy room with a king sized bed AND a TV!! (we haven't had a tv since we've been married, so when we stay in hotels I'm in heaven. it's pathetic, but Gideon tolerates it.) it was the perfect three day weekend, friends. we came home happy and rejuvenated, bringing the fall briskness with us down to the city.

and here we have a little video story of us golfing for your viewing pleasure friends.

we were so so bad.
but we had so so much fun, so I guess that's all that matters.

hope you enjoy your friday.

dear october.

What a lovely first day you've given us. I've been feeling a bit blue lately, and today was such a warm and welcome surprise. Thank you for the briskness in the air, for the soft slow glow to wake up to. Thank you for the drizzles, and for the opportunity to wear (and actually need) a scarf. Thank you for warm socks, hot cocoa, and for family being in town.

My cousin's kids falling in love with gid.

Thank you especially for the dancing you've given me on cool fall evenings. Improvisation and passive sequencing in lovely studios with lovely artists, accompanied by lovely music. I can't think of a better way to get ready for bed. I'd forgotten what dance rehearsals without thesis stress felt like. It's quite nice.

Thanks October.
You're a pal.
