winter photoshoot, or "poor teddy"

guys, we were lucky enough to grab some family christmas photos
by the incredible kylie fly turley last week which was a BLAST FROM THE PAST;

she and her cute triplet sisters were my neighbors in college,
and she did this photoshoot of gid and i in hawaii when we were newlyweds six years ago.

six years!!
time, man. it flies.

anyway she did great work, especially considering this was poor teddy's first experience with snow.
(who'd have thought we'd get such a lovely backdrop just by driving up the mountain a few minutes?!)

enjoy, friends. and tell me which one to use for our cards.
i'm still trying to decide.
i call this one "poor teddy", lol.

thanks again for the pics, ky!

pumpkin patch II.

teddy's first pumpkin patch visit from this post was super fun, but it happened before gideon came down to texas to join us.
obviously we had to make another trip to a patch as a family, right?

sometimes i look at pictures like this, and i'm like, "cute baby." and then i realize he's our baby and we get to keep him forever, and it just makes my day.

i'm still not used to the fact that there's three of us now.

...which is weird because it feels like teddy has been with us forevvvveer.

(i'm lookin' at you, sleepless nights! did i mention teddy
decided he doesn't want to sleep through the night after all? sigh)

now we have three pumpkins outside our door- a big one, a medium one, and a baby one.

gid's shirt (sale!)
teddy's cute hat

happy monday!

quick texas visit.

i've been crazy homesick, and teddy hasn't had a chance to
breathe texas air yet, so we decided to make a quick visit.

so fun, guys.
is it me, or is lubbock getting nicer? i'm so confused.

anyway, we checked out this pumpkin patch and had a sweet time.

the babies are getting bigger, and it breaks my heart. part of me feels like becoming a mama makes me less attentive (and consequentially less fun) of an aunt. it's okay, it's just kinda true.

i wish i had more energy, or that i could duplicate myself- one of me just for playing, one just for picture taking, one of me just for changing diapers...etc
i held teddy in this awesome wrap the whole time we were there, and was able to get some pictures and video taken. everything is more complicated with a little guy. i wonder how many more family videos i've got left in me with a baby to pay attention to.

anyway, i managed to throw this little video together to remember our trip. i'm hoping i'll look back on it and remember how fun it was, watching the little ones run around, and smelling the sweet fall air.

it's teddy's first debut in a family video! many many more to come.
enjoy friends. xo

picture story.

i found these photos in my camera from last year.

can you believe how flawless her tangled and wild curls are?
she's got all the luck in the world, that one.
makes me want to do a fine art series of photographs just focusing on one feature at a time.

sigh. lets go do a photoshoot, friends.

shadow puppet story.

while i was visiting, every morning she'd climb down from the top bunk and snuggle in bed with me before enthusiastically suggesting we go get breakfast. one morning we used light from my cell phone and shapes from our hands to make shadows on the wall and ceiling.

she loved it so much, so i got some card stock, scissors and found some sticks from a cake pop kit that hadn't been used. i looked up some silhouette images online, traced them, cut them out, and after taking these pictures we even added tulle to the skirts. (if you watch the video closely you can tell)

...and that's how you make the core cast of a shadow puppet ballet company.

hoping we could remember how much fun we had, i insisted that we set up the camera and try to document. it was a different setting than we normally used, and the lighting was pretty bad, but we still had fun.

spoiler alert: the best part is mimi's ending bow.
the rest is just okay. her bow makes it worth watching.

today.

today i'm thinking i've gotta cut my hair.
maybe this week. okay, maybe this month.
... for sure before the baby comes.
my hair has been so weird for the past several months.

i have lots of important stuff i need to get for teddy, but all i really want are swimsuits and hats for the beach. we don't have a beach trip planned, but tiny trunks for a baby born in the summer seem essential to me.

i'm starting to think that we're never going to get into a two bedroom. and if we don't i think we're putting teddy in our closet. that's cool, right? kinda like harry potter...
we're so trendy.

i just got back from visiting my sister for 2 weeks. i'm happy to be home, but i'm super sad that i don't get to hang out with them 24/7 anymore. the morning after i left, mimi told me that she called down to me twice (since she sleeps on the top bunk and i sleep on the bottom bunk) but i wasn't there. her eyes had fat tears in them. i wanted to cry too. i hate them living on the other side of the country.

i took that glucose test (the crazy sugary drink to test if you have gestational diabetes) and finished it no problem. it kinda worried me how impressed the lab tech was, but my doc called and said that my blood is all sorts of normal. nailed it.

i think baby hiccups are sweet but they give gid the willies. every time i tell him the baby has them he rushes over and puts his hand firmly against my midsection and asks teddy if he's okay with a concerned voice. it's sweet, right?

i think i'm going to eat some cold cereal and take a nap. thursdays are the best.

and by best, i mean the sleepiest.

first week home.

it seems like the first few days home from the hospital are the longest.

the hours creep by, and yet are somehow filled with things like nursing sessions, burping, spitting up, laundry, and changing sweet little diapers.

if you're lucky perhaps you get a nap or a snack here or there.

i like to think someday when my sister's family look back at pictures like these they'll somehow forget how tired we were when we took them; only that they were the sweet beginning hours of a new addition to a sweet family.

"look how much he loves me!" mimi said, right before i snapped this shot.

sometimes life is just the sweetest, you know?
