halloweentime.

i was going to give up on a family halloween costume, because the last few weeks have been rough, and i didn't want to stress myself out with a holiday that is supposed to be fun.

i'm so glad we decided to throw a costume together anyway.

i present to you: princess leia, handsome han solo, and a sleepy little ewok.
(poor teddy was fast asleep throughout all of our pictures, and i didn't have the heart to wake him up.)

We had our costumes out already thanks to the 20's party we threw a few weeks ago

 so we decided to use them for halloween, friends.

We attempted Zelda, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Last year we ran out of candy, and I felt so bad for the final few trick-or-treaters
who I offered apples to apologetically.

(I imagine they think, "Thanks for nothing, mean apple lady," when they see me around the village.)



So this year I spent about $40 on candy to be sure we wouldn't run out.

About 5 kids came by. I've got candy coming out of my ears.
(And since we opened the bags I can't return any of it.)

ps- I must be honest: Gideon with a mustache makes me uneasy. 

So if anyone is looking for candy, don't hesitate to come by. Really.

The past few years, we haven't had time. 

We haven't had motivation. 

But this halloween, we decided to dress up. Nothing over the top, nothing that cost more than a few bucks.  Just needed a newsboy cap for gid, really. 

I already had the skirt, the button up top, the boots and the ribbon for a belt and bow.

Also had a handsome boy to play my chimney sweep, of course. What a cutie.

Our friends lent us the most phenomenal umbrella. 

Very Mary, if I do say so myself.

Our last Halloween in graduate school, friends. 

Such sweet memories for us to cherish for the rest of our lives.

So mimi is obsessed with Cinderella.

My sister tells me that she'll run over to the couch,

 delicately lift one foot and say in her little 1.5 year old voice, "and look- glass slippers."

So gid and I went to pick up a little cinderella dress for my sweet mimi.

Have you guys noticed that all the disney princess outfits have these cheap looking pins with a picture of the specific disney princess on them? Color me tacky. Sure enough- the dress and shoes gid and I  picked up came with atrocious plastic pins on them.

So I snipped them off. 

And replaced them with jewels.

(The other day mimi said one of her many complete sentence statements- 

"I love diamonds", so I thought jewels would be very appropriate for her costume. )

The more I put on, the more I had to put on.

By the end of the day, I'd attached 11 teardrop or emerald shaped diamond looking gems, and super glued 44 light blue rhinestones to the dress.

Little headband made easily with jewels and hot glue.

Goodness, I didn't realize how tough fixing up a little dress can be. 

(And I didn't even make it!)

It must have been much harder for those mice in the movie... 

She's going to be the cutest little cinderella ever.
